The one key that opens your Fyldit vault — and only you have a copy.
What is the Master Key?
When you sign up for Fyldit, you pick a Master Key. It's a secret word, sentence, or phrase that only you know. Think of it as the key to a safe in your home — except this safe lives online and holds everything precious to you.
We never see your Master Key. We don't store it. We don't have a copy. That's the whole point — it's yours and yours alone.
What your Master Key does
- Opens your vault when you sign in
- Locks every document, photo, note and password you save
- Stays on your device — never sent to us
- Is the only thing that can read what's inside your vault
What your Master Key is NOT
- Not your email password (those are separate)
- Not stored on our servers
- Not something we can email you
- Not something we can reset — we genuinely don't know it
Why we can't reset it for you
If we could reset your Master Key, a stranger pretending to be you could ask us to do the same. So we made a promise: we don't hold your key, so no one else can take it either.
But don't worry — you're not alone if you ever forget it. Your friends and family can help you back in, through something called the Trusted Circle Key.
How to pick a strong Master Key
- Make it a sentence, not a word. Something like “My golden retriever Buddy loves Tuesday walks” is far stronger than “Buddy123”.
- Make it personal but private. Something meaningful to you, but not something written on your social media.
- Write it down once, in a safe place. A piece of paper in a real-life safe is fine. Just don't save it on your phone in a regular note.
- Never share it. Not with us, not with support, not with anyone. Real Fyldit staff will never ask.
